Working Together for Greater Safety: Machine Safety in Workshops for People with Disabilities

MOWOTAS GmbH specializes in machine safety and the retrofitting of machine tools with modern safety equipment. We regularly work with workshops for people with disabilities as well as vocational training centers—places where safe working conditions and hands-on training should go hand in hand.

Just as in industrial environments, many of these facilities still use legacy drilling machines, lathes and milling machines that were originally manufactured without modern safety devices. These time-tested machines are often easy to operate, exceptionally robust and have remained in reliable service for decades. Replacing them is usually not an option—and fortunately, it doesn’t have to be.

Our experienced technicians carry out both mechanical and electrical safety retrofits, perform the required safety inspections and advise those responsible on suitable machine safety solutions.

Modern Machine Safety for the Workshop

In most cases, we can retrofit virtually any conventional workshop machine to comply with today's safety requirements. This typically includes robust machine guards, transparent drill guards, easily accessible emergency stop devices and electrical modifications in accordance with the applicable safety regulations.

Close and respectful cooperation with the workshop employees is particularly important to us. Whenever possible, we actively involve all participants in the retrofit process. For example, employees can manufacture adapter plates for mounting the new lathe guards or assist our specialists during installation. At the same time, there is always an opportunity to ask questions about the purpose of the new safety equipment and receive practical guidance on its correct use.

Expertise with a Human Touch

Our goal is not only to create a safer workplace but also to build a better understanding of the implemented safety measures. Effective machine safety is about far more than simply installing protective equipment. Careful preparation builds trust, supports inclusion and ultimately ensures that everyone, whether with or without a disability, can carry out their work safely, confidently and successfully.
