Measure, calculate, install – our service for your lathe

Lack of machine safety is a critical issue, especially with aging equipment. If not already done, older machine tools should be retrofitted as soon as possible. On the one hand, to comply with legal requirements and avoid liability cases or penalties. More importantly: all employees – from inexperienced trainees to seasoned professionals – must be protected from injuries by every possible means!

We cannot stress this enough – please contact us before an accident happens

When retrofitting an older lathe for safety, it is essential to carefully document the dimensions, the control electronics, and any modifications to the specific model. This should never be taken lightly, even with well-known brands. Only through precise measurement and recording of special features can we ensure that the safety guard later fits correctly – without compromising operator comfort!

Measure your lathe yourself and order the safety guard online

To save time and keep costs low, you can generally measure your lathe yourself and retrofit it independently. MOWOTAS GmbH supports you: In our online shop, you will find standard safety guards in various sizes and shapes as well as practical mounting brackets. We also offer personal advice on products and applicable regulations – by phone or email.

Nevertheless, we understand that many customers request on-site support, especially when it is unclear which type of safety guard is needed or when machine operators are skeptical. In such cases, we always try to make it possible for an experienced colleague to visit your workshop.

Behind the scenes of a customer visit with our colleague

Careful documentation makes it easier for us to determine the right safety guard. In the video, you can see our employee measuring a lathe of the type TOS SN 55 and photographing relevant areas. Based on this information, it was easy for him to select the correct product and plan the subsequent installation. In this case, there were no structural changes to the lathe, so we were able to offer standard sizes and keep the installation effort within reasonable limits.

Do you have a unique machine? We can get creative.

Sometimes, you encounter machines for which no standard solution exists in the catalog. In these cases, only a custom design will do – and we are happy to provide it. To ensure a perfect fit, the first step is to measure the lathe precisely. All relevant dimensions – such as chuck diameter, distances to other components, and potential mounting points – are recorded. Only with this information can a safe and functional retrofit be carried out.

Occasionally, minor structural adjustments or the fabrication of an on-site adapter may be needed to install the safety guard, but this is usually clear in advance and discussed with you.

Lathe Guard TF For Lathe Chucks

This lathe guard TF protects the lathe operator from contact with the rotating chuck. At the same time, it also provides protection against hot chips, oil, coolant or any other type of flying parts that may be produced by machining a workpiece. Nevertheless, the shielding can be opened easily if you want to change the workpiece or chuck (For additional protection we recommend the gliding lathe guard Major or chip guard TC for front mounting or TC for rear mounting on the lathe.)  The robust steel construction and the impact-resistant, transparent protective screen made of a particularly high-quality plastic are resistant to mechanical and chemical influences. In addition, the protective device has a safety microswitch for additional safety. When the locked protective cover moves, the microswitch opens and sends a stop signal to the machine control. This prevents the machine from running when the screen is open.  The semicircular protective screen can be flexibly positioned on the holder. Let yourself be convinced by the simple assembly and adjustment.  If you like a model with a screen made of sheet steel with large polycarbonate viewing windows, please visit our model POL or our full metal hinged safety cover TFM.  For the selection of the optimum size of the lathe chuck guard, please also consider the dimension of any protruding clamping jaws. We also recommend a safety distance of approx. 100 mm.  Calculation example for the selection of the correct size: Spindle diameter 250 mm plus length of the protruding clamping jaws of 50 mm (this time two: left/right), plus safety distance 100 mm = 450 mm = TF450.You can find instructions for correct dimensioning of your lathe shields here.  Scope of delivery: Mounting with safety switch, protection cover in the selected diameter, installation instructions, CE declaration of conformity.  You can find more lathe guards here.

Emergency-Stop Pushbutton with Restart Protection Up To 18 kW Machine Output

Emergency stop boxes with distribution box, suitable for a load up to 18 kW, 3 phases and 38 A.Three-phase motor start/stop with overload cut-off and automatic reset by push button or emergency stop switch.  The power is switched through to the load via protection C1. The distribution box has generated its own 400 V AC transformer TM1 of 24 V AC. The input and output circuits are fused. This auxiliary voltage is used to supply the emergency stop box, relay R1 and protection C1. Control functions for low voltage (24V), management of safety microswitches installed on the machine button.  All emergency stop boxes ensure conscious switching on and off without automatic restart. The built-in LED indicates whether voltage is applied to the box and thus to the machine. The emergency stop as well as the start/stop can be integrated into the existing machine stop circuit or make it possible in the first place.  Dimensions: L 170 x W 118 x H 82 mm (pushbutton panel) L 200 x W 150 x H 150 mm (switch box)Scope of supply: Pushbutton box and switch box, CE Declaration of Conformity

Pair of Roll Blinders AR for Lathe Lead Screw, Closed Housing

Robust cover for guide and feed spindles to protect against any sources of danger. Two-piece cover with closed housing. With our protective device set AR you get a heavy, industrial-suited cover for guide and pull spindles. The two roller blinds (each for mounting to the right and left of the tool slide) are made of high-strength, heat-resistant aramid fibres. The roller and spring mechanism of the blind holder is enclosed in a welded steel box.  When the tape retracts onto the roller mechanism inside the steel box, any chips that may have settled on the lid are wiped away to prevent damage to the internal components.  The protection is available in different lengths and heights to suit every lathe. Larger covers are also available, e.g. 7,000 or 8,000 mm long. Prices available on request.  Measure for the correct size, height and width of the lathe bed. Instructions for correct dimensioning can be found here. >> Attention: If the model is too small, the protective mechanism may otherwise be damaged if the carriage is moved too far to the left or right.    Scope of delivery: Protection device in selected size, consisting of pair of roller blinds with spring and blind holder as well as sturdy metal boxes, installation instructions, CE declaration of conformity.
